Delete your ShoCial account

This page is for the ShoCial Android app and the ShoCial website (app.shocial.in). You can ask us to delete your account and the data linked to it in the app, on the website, or by email if you cannot sign in.

Option 1: In the app

  1. Open Settings and choose Delete Account.
  2. Tick the box that confirms you understand, type DELETE, and tap the delete button.
  3. We email a 6 digit code to the email address on your account. Enter the code to confirm.
  4. If your account has an email address, you can choose to have a copy of your data emailed to you first. The choice is ticked by default. If the copy cannot be sent, nothing is deleted and you can try again without it.
  5. When you confirm, your account is deactivated at once and scheduled for permanent deletion after a 30 day waiting period. Our team reviews every deletion request before it is carried out. Signing in during the 30 days cancels the deletion.

Option 2: On the website

Sign in at app.shocial.in, then open Delete Account and follow the same steps.

Cannot sign in? Email us

If you uninstalled the app, cannot reach the email address on your account, or signed up with a phone number only, you can ask for your account to be deleted by email, without opening the app.

  • Write to support@shocial.in from the email address registered on your account. If your account has a phone number and no email address, write from any address and include the phone number.
  • Use the subject Delete my account.
  • Do not send passwords or identity documents.

We may ask you to confirm that the account is yours before we delete anything, and we will reply to confirm. After that the account and data are handled as described below.

What is deleted

  • Your profile and private account data
  • Saved addresses, notifications and push notification tokens
  • Any profile picture you uploaded to ShoCial, and the photos and videos you added to your reviews
  • Your stories (the story posts and the story files you uploaded to ShoCial), the feedback you sent, and the partner link taps you made that do not name a creator
  • Identity verification documents and payout details (for creators and sellers), unless you have been paid out: see below
  • Your sign-in account, and your username so that it can be used again

What is kept, and why

  • Order, payment and creator payout records are kept for tax, accounting and refund purposes, for as long as the law requires. Your name, phone number, email address, street address and bank details are removed from them. City, state, PIN code and country are kept.
  • Old withdrawal requests and the payout requests of sellers are kept as they are, and can still hold the bank or UPI details given for the payout.
  • If you are a creator or seller and have been paid out at least once, your identity verification record is kept: your legal name, PAN or ID number, the business name and GSTIN of a seller, the documents you uploaded and the bank or UPI details you gave. It is kept for tax and anti-money-laundering purposes, for as long as the law requires. It is deleted for everyone who was never paid out.
  • Wallet, ShoCoins and ledger records are kept as financial records, linked to your user ID only. Your ShoCoins balance is not paid out or refunded when the account is deleted.
  • Once the deletion job is switched on, partner link taps you made on the link of a creator are kept without your identity (your user ID, session and device fingerprint are removed), because they count towards the earnings of that creator.
  • Records of the policies you accepted, security and audit logs, appeals, reports you filed and our decisions on them, partner link taps that other people made on your links (if you are a creator), usage events and operational logs are not removed with your account. They are kept as proof and for safety, for a limited time.
  • Videos (shots) you posted are hidden from the feeds and from the app, but for now the video and cover files and the post records are kept and are not deleted. A story post is deleted, but the picture or video file it showed is kept for now. Anyone who already has the link to a file may still be able to open it.
  • Comments, reviews and chat messages you wrote may remain, and may still show your username. If you uploaded a picture to ShoCial, that file is deleted, and so are the photos you added to reviews. A picture that comes from your Google account is not ours to delete, and its link can stay in old comments and chats.

When the deletion cannot go ahead

  • A deletion request is refused while your wallet holds money or owes a balance, or while a withdrawal is not paid out yet. Settle these first, then ask again.
  • Once the deletion job is switched on, a seller account (a shop on ShoCial) is not deleted from the app: our team closes it by hand. Write to support@shocial.in, and settle your earnings and your open orders first.
  • Once the deletion job is switched on, a deletion is also refused while earnings or a settlement owed to you are not settled, or while an order for your products is open or ended less than 30 days ago. Settle these first, then ask again.
  • After you have asked, the deletion is held back while you have an open order, or an order that ended (delivered, cancelled, refunded or returned) less than 30 days ago. An order with no activity for 90 days no longer holds it back.
